More TV Advertisements- Harvey Nichols

Harvey Nichols- Not Just For Christmas

This advert is advertising and promoting the brand of Harvey Nichols. However this advert is also showing the lengths that some fashionistas will go to, even when it comes down to using a dog as an accessory to their own personal outfits.

The advert starts of with reflection of the women's shoes and dog in the glass mirror. The glass mirror instantly symbolises rich and wealth. When the audience hear the women speaking and another dog gets put down it shows that this lady is trying to find a dog that will go with her outfit. Several mid shots are used to show people walking around the shop looking at the dogs. At 0.18 we see the shopping assistant open up a draw to find some more dogs. This is related back to when your in a shop and the assistant opens up the draw to find another item in which you are looking for. This symbolises to the audience that these dogs are being used as a fashion accessory.  The Christmas themed music that is being played throughout the shop reinforces the theme of the advert and also helps to add a 'jolly' atmosphere to the text.

One reason why I believe they have used dogs to help advertise for their shop at Christmas is because they are trying to say that there are thousands of things to choose from within our store. For example the shoes at the beginning were instantly a sign for....... When the women said ' do you have these in a different colour', this instantly lead the audience to believe that she meant the shoes. However when the dog changed it showed the audience that the store has a whole range of items and statements pieces to offer. This advert plays on the idea of  "don't believe everything you see". From this advert playing on this idea it connotes that they were trying to demonstrate their wide range of items to sale through the use of dogs.

From watching this advert, I have realised that there are so many different ways an advertisement can get its messages across to its target audience.  I believe that this advert has an unusual storyline to it however it advertises the brand and shop very well in terms of it selling a wide range of products. The music that was used throughout this piece suits the style of the ad. This is another aspect that I need to definitely think about when producing my own TV advertisement.
