First of all, web pop up ads are advertisements which pop up on top of your window that is already open. When these open they usually effect the webpage you are on, therefore it forces the viewers to read the web pop up before they close it to go back to their original webpage.
When researching web pop ups, banner ads also are a form of advertising. These tend to be at the top of a website or can sometimes be at the bottom.
1. Here are the banner sizes which are most commonly used for banner ads:
- 486 x 60 Pixels (Full Banner)
- 392 x 72 Pixels (Full Banner with Vertical Navigation Bar)
- 234 x 60 Pixels (Half Banner)
- 120 x 240 Pixels (Vertical Banner)
- 125 x 125 Pixels (Square Button)
- 120 x 90 Pixels (Button 1)
- 120 x60 Pixels (Button 2)
- 88 x 31 Pixels (Micro Button)
Here are a few example of banner ads:
Within this ad, bright colours have been used such as pink. One reason why the colour of pink has been used is because this is related to the charity in which they are sponsoring.Similarly with this banner ad the use of the colour green has been used. Again they have used bright colours. Website banner ads need to be bright and colourful so that they can stand out from what ever website they are advertising on.Later on I will look into web pop ups and see if there are any conventions which are the same.
